Get your tissues out for this one.
In What The Hills this week I don't have my usual interview for you. Instead I'm telling a story, about my great great uncle Charlie and the "Gallipoli Die-Hards". I can't take all the credit for the episode this week. Much is taken from the letters of Jack McCarthy, a friend of Uncle Charlie, who wrote home during the war. Some is also from a story published in the Barrier Miner newspaper in Broken Hill.
I'd also like to acknowledge the Australian War Memorial and its treasure trove of information which I used to piece together the story.
I also have my favourite Anzac Biscuit recipe for you. If you'd like to make your own, check out my source for the recipe: https://www.abc.net.au/everyday/anzac-biscuits-with-rosemary-burnt-butter-and-honey-recipe
This episode is published early so you can hear it on Anzac Day.
